iPhones slowed to prevent battery issues

Recently it was confirmed by Apple that they have been slowing the performance of older iPhone models. iPhone 6, iPhone 6s and iPhone SE models performance have been effected due to aging batteries. Apple stated it has intentionally slowed down performance on some  iPhone models due to issues caused by aging batteries.

This practice started with the release of iOS 10.2.1 last year, to stop the iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, and iPhone SE from shutting down. Due to some power circumstances like cold weather, low battery charge or battery aging. For future procreation’s Apple confirmed a power management feature for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus with iOS 11.2.

In a statement to CNET Apple said:

“Our goal is to deliver the best experience for customers, which includes overall performance and prolonging the life of their devices. Lithium-ion batteries become less capable of supplying peak current demands when in cold conditions, have a low battery charge or as they age over time, which can result in the device unexpectedly shutting down to protect its electronic components.

Last year we released a feature for iPhone 6, iPhone 6s and iPhone SE to smooth out the instantaneous peaks only when needed to prevent the device from unexpectedly shutting down during these conditions. We’ve now extended that feature to iPhone 7 with iOS 11.2, and plan to add support for other products in the future.”

John Poole  founder of Geekbench reported earlier decreasing processor performance on older iPhone models, likely caused by iOS.

From our experience with Apple products I can’t say I am the least bit surprised. Ever since the launch of the first iPhone 2G with the iPhone 6S we have noticed considerable slower processing speeds with every newer update. Some say that Apple purposely slows down older devices so customers buy a new one.

Therefor our advice is not to always jump onto the new IOS updates, give it some time and do some research on any accruing issues!
